I live out of state, and relied on Unilocal reviews which rarely lead me astray. My appointment was for «special event hair» for my wedding reception with Jenny. I hate that I have to leave a bad review, but my experience was sub-par. I didn’t technically ever go here, but I won’t try again in the future, either. So why would I want to be cancelled on just to have someone who is less skilled in that particular area cut my hair? I’m not faulting Greg or anything, but couldn’t Masyn or the front desk get it together enough to check that earlier, so they wouldn’t have to cancel on me the day before my appointment? To get an appointment with someone good, it takes a few weeks, so I then had to wait all over again, past the point at which my hair was getting shaggy. Unlike Masyn, he was not listed as someone you should pick for a women’s short cut. I looked Greg up on the online appointment booker which lists specialities of each stylist. On Thursday, the day before my appointment, I received a voicemail that Masyn was not actually taking new clients, and if I would like Greg to cut my hair, he would be available later that day that I was supposed to have gone in. I was asked to confirm my appointment on Wednesday (my appointment was Friday). That’s fine, I’d rather have it done right and wait a little longer. I booked a week and a half or two weeks out because she was booked before then. I saw that Masyn was one of the stylists specifically listed as someone who could do women’s short haircuts. I liked that their site allowed you to make your appointments online. Last month I made an appointment to have my hair cut by Masyn. And, best of all, the owner has the sweetest pit bull who wanders around the shop – dogs make everything better! The one and only downside is that it’s pretty expensive, even as trendy Boulder salons go, but like with all things, you get what you pay for and the hair they’re able to give me here is worth every penny. All of the staff has been super nice and helpful. The place is cool, but not offensively so and as a pretty regular, not all that cool person, I feel comfortable and welcomed. The atmosphere of the salon is also really nice and it’s a pretty solid place to spend a couple of hours. And wow, is it an amazing technique! Beth has gone way above and beyond for me – the first time I got it done, they unexpectedly ran out of the product halfway through (that’s how much hair I have!) and she special ordered more and then came in on her day off to finish it! Beth is truly an artist and she has been able to achieve something unique and beautiful with my crazy curls. Given the texture of my hair, the stylists were hesitant to use bleach and instead talked me into using an alum dying technique which allows the dye to stick to your natural color. I originally wanted my hair dyed a pastel pink, but thankfully Beth and Mayson talked me out of it and were able to come up with a much better way to give me stunning pink hair. I’ve had my hair dyed and cut by Beth a couple of times now and, for the first time in my adult life, I love my hair. I LOVE this place! I have very thick, very curly hair that is by all accounts difficult to work with and this is the only salon I’ve ever been completely satisfied with.
